What It Means To Be Wealthy
A famous singer and songwriter once said, “You aren’t wealthy until you have something money can’t buy” --Garth Brooks. Wealth can have different meanings to different people. There are different ways to interpret being wealthy; the upper-class thinks of being wealthy as having the best of whatever money can buy, while the middle-class thinks of being wealthy as just having enough, and the lower class thinks of being wealthy as having what they need to be happy.
The people who are in the upper-class think that having the best-looking house and the best looking car makes them wealthy. To them, it’s all about having the best of whatever money can buy. Money, to them, isn’t an issue. The upper-class likes to buy expensive possessions because it allows them to show off their money. On television, there are famous celebrities who have big, extravagant houses that have more rooms than they could ever need. There are cars that cost thousands of dollars, and the only ones who would be seen driving an expensive car like that would be the population who most would consider as part of the upper-class. The people in the middle and lower classes could not afford to buy expensive cars.
All the while, the people who are in the middle-class, also referred to as the working class, think of being wealthy as having enough money to support their families. The middle-class make enough money to support their families, and they might have a little extra to put away into savings. Most families who are considered to be in the middle-class have to live paycheck to paycheck. If they are lucky, then they will make a little bit of extra money. These parents do not want their children to have to worry about if the cable or internet is going to be turned off. The parents want their kids to have decent clothes that they can wear and in a few months be able to buy them new clothes without having to worry about how much money they have.
Lastly, the people who are considered to be part of the lower class may not have the most admirable or the expensive homes that the upper-class would have or be able to support their family like the middle-class, but they have what they need to be happy with the life that they are living. They might have to sit outside a grocery store or stand on the street curb pleading for money with the hope that middle and upper-class families will spare them a dollar so they can eat dinner. The lower class may not have the nicest clothes, and they may not even have a place to call home. The lower class may not have fancy clothes, but they are the most loving and caring people who are out there.
The upper-class may be wealthy with money, but the lower class is wealthy with kindness. Being wealthy does not have the same meaning to the upper, middle, and lower classes. The different classes have various ways of determining what being wealthy means to them. Wealth to the upper-class is being able to buy what they want, to the middle-class, being wealthy is buying what they need, and to the lower class, being wealthy is being happy with what they do have.
